Abstract

In the article we discuss the features of the study of voters’ political beliefs. We review the main approaches to the study of political beliefs. We represent the results of empirical research, which purpose is to study the system of philosophical and instrumental electoral beliefs about politics. The subject of the study is voters’ political images, political beliefs and features of political behavior. In the study we used the following methods: semantic differential, differential personality, author profiles. The study involved 130 residents of St. Petersburg at the age from 19 to 67 years. The article presents the analysis of the correlation between the political beliefs of voters and their as sessment of Russia and Russians. We described political beliefs underlying the rejection of electoral participation. Also we adduce an analysis of the relationship between voters’ political beliefs and the activity of their political behavior. The results of the study show that beliefs about the politics affect the formation of political images and manifested in the political behavior of voters.
