Abstract

As in previous Bundestag elections, issues, images of leading candidates and of the parties themselves, and the degree of voter loyalty all contributed in 1994 to an explanation of the Bundestag election outcome. Changes in the voter profile for the parties in terms of gender, age and social composition were also significant factors. The 1994 election has important implications for the future development of the party system.
