Abstract

A simple method of estimating the settlement of circular or annular centrally loaded footings is presented. The method incorporates the elasto-plastic behavior manifested through the contact pressures reaching yield value over certain regions of the footing. The results from this method agree closely with those from FEM and experiments. The entire load-settlement response is obtained quite economically in terms of computer time. Design charts are presented for ready use. Further work on footings subjected to moment loading is in progress. (Author)
