Abstract
We transcribe, in this article, the words pronounced by the Portuguese author Jose Saramago, who was awarded in 1998 the Nobel Prize for Literature, in occasion of a lecture given at the Complutense University of Madrid in may 1995. During his speech, Saramago spoke about his theatre writings.
