Con tamaños muestrales pequeños, la varianza del coeficiente de correlación de Pearson aumenta, disminuyendo la precisión de sus estimaciones. El uso de la z de Fisher ayuda a estabilizar la varianza y obtener estimaciones más precisas en metanálisis cuya medida de resultado es una correlación y cuando la muestra de los estudios primarios es reducida.
