Abstract

The first movie clip is presented as popular leisure entertainment seeking its own space among other theatrical presentations such as plays, dioramas or other nineteenth-century visual entertainment. However, before the narrative and mechanics of the film were affirmed, an analysis of the first movies enjoyed by spectators demonstrates the cultural aspects of the time and the labor of the cinematographer in creating flowing images from photographs as was habitually done with images extracted from the plays of the time, the vaudeville theater, and even the circus. This paper synthesizes the early days of cinema in Malaga and analyzes the social forces that impacted on and produced this new popular entertainment in Malagan society. The paper also reveals a social history of public discourse on films, which took their time to find a place in the public imagination, as they were initially confused with other visual spectacles.
