Abstract
The article studies social relationships in the valley of La Conveción, Peru. It focuses on the relation between coffee production in this municipality and the emergence of revolutionary leftists groups. Coffee production saw great increases after WW2. The article describes the social hierarchy in coffee-producing agricultural units and its relation to the Revolutionary Workers Party (Partido Obrero Revolucionario, POR) and the beginnings of Peruvian political activist Hugo Blanco. Blanco led a peasant rebellion in the region of la Convencion and the article analyses the importance of this event.
