Abstract

Schools are increasingly requesting the intervention of language remediation services in children with language and communication difficulties. It is well known that the demand for these services in public schools far exceeds the available supply. The present article provides both a proposal for language and communication services based on our project in public schools in a specific area, and a reflection on these services. For the past three school years, we have conducted a project based on providing consulting and guidance services in language and communication to public school teachers and other professionals working with schools. To distribute the available resources evenly, there must be a change in the school services culture. Providing assistance and guidance, through consulting, to the classroom teacher would increase the help available to students with language and communication difficulties. The main objective of this consulting project is to assist regular classroom teachers in developing their students’ oral language. The method used, mediated naturalist intervention, is in agreement with the principles of the inclusive school and requires the use of new educational procedures and increased collaboration among the various professionals involved.
