Abstract

This article analyzes the features and dynamics of industrial and economic development of the Soviet period on the example of one of the largest regions - the Rostov region. The author draws attention to both the obvious achievements and shortcomings of the socialist model of industrial and technological development. The greatly increased industrial potential, built primarily for the creation of means of production, proved unable to meet the consumer demand of the population. The modernization initiatives of the beginning of perestroika did not lead to fundamental changes in the situation of industry and the economy.
