Abstract

Some epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of the microsporosis caused by Microsporum lanosum 206 clinically healthy cats were examined for possible infestation with M. lanosum. Culturing revealed growth of M. lanosum in 5 of the 206 apparently healthy cats and experiments showed that the fungus strains isolated had a marked pathogenicity. An analysis of the frequency of microsporosis in Moskow revealed some changes in the clinical picture and course of the microsporosis caused by M. lanosum. Good results were obtained in treatment of children with 21–22 mg/kg of griseofulvin. The duration of treatment until disappearance of the fungi was 27.7 days on the average. Recurrence of microsporosis after griseofulvin therapy was seen in 3 of 241 patients followed up (1.2%).
