Abstract

Summary Silybin, silydianin and silychristin, the biologically active constituents of the milk thistle (Silybum marianum Gaertn.), strongly stimulate the oxygen uptake of plant tissue. The effect manifests itself in the intensity of the respiration and in the time course of oxygen consumption and shows a clear dose-response relationship.
