Abstract
In comparative investigations, we have demonstrated that cytokinins can cause an increase in nitrate reductase activity in leaf discs of both Beta vuglaris and Chenopodium album independent of the presence of nitrate or light. A simultaneous application of nitrate and cytokinins resulted in additive effects on enzyme activity. The time course of the changes in nitrate reductase activity are comparable to the induction kinetics of this enzyme as published in the literature. There are only quantitative differences in the reaction of Beta vulgaris and Chenopodium album to cytokinin treatment.
