Abstract

Description of a new species of the genus Bathytropa B.-L., B. wahrmani, from the Near East (Israel and Vilayet Hatay, Turkey). The flagellum of the second antennae has two segments. The pleura of pleon segments 3 to 5 are well developed. The telson is wide, with its sides incurved and with a posterior widening; in the middle of the apical margin there is a slight incision. Spongious pseudotracheae are present in all pleopodal exopodites; the tracheal system of the two anterior pairs only is bounded by a border. The surface of the body has long upstanding spinous processes or tubercles. The head has a frontal spine and two transverse rows of spines, the anterior row with two, the posterior row with four spines. Each of the pereion segments has a row of spines, segments 1 to 4 have six, segments 5 to 7 have four spines or tubercles; segment 1, moreover, shows a spine in the middle of the anterior margin. Pleon segments 1 to 5, or only 1 to 4, each have two submedian spines.
