Abstract

1. A model analysing gene exchange and crossover interference is developed, discussed and compared with other models. It may be used for ordered and unordered tetrads. In the case of ordered ones 2-factor-crosses are sufficient, for unordered ones 3-factor-crosses are necessary. 2. The model makes it possible to find out the map distance directly without being dependent on graphs. In this way exact and specific mapping for each region of interference and each linkage group is guaranteed. 3. The model gives limited information as to the strength of crossover interference by determing a certain value that is not surpassed by the coincidence factor. The coincidence factor is completely defined mathematically and biologically. 4. The model allows an exact determination of the theoretical and an approximate determination of the real maximum frequency of 2nd division segregations and of breaks for each region of interference.
