Abstract

This chapter discusses eight species of horned lizards found in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It describes the characteristics and distribution of the Texas horned lizard (Phrynosoma cornutum), the coast horned lizard (Phrynosoma coronatum), the pygmy horned lizard (Phrynosoma douglasii), the short-horned lizard (Phrynosoma hernandesi), the flat-tail horned lizard (Phrynosoma mcallii), the roundtail horned lizard (Phrynosoma modestum), the desert horned lizard (Phrynosoma platyrhinos, and the regal horned lizard (Phrynosoma solare).
