Abstract

Fieldwork is an integral part of the social work curriculum at the bachelor’s and master’s level and occupies a central place in social work education. The fieldwork training provided to students in India is poorly structured and witnesses a large disconnect between the theoretical classroom teaching and its practice in the field. In the absence of proper fieldwork manuals and clear-cut guidelines, fieldwork training in social work education has become kind of routine. The fieldwork training in India offered to students also differs among schools due to the absence of a National Council for Social Work Education. The chapter identifies the various gaps and missing linkages and inherent deficiencies in fieldwork training in India and provides various recommendations for improving it.
