Abstract

In this study, the development of urban geography in Turkey is comparatively dealt with considering the development of cities in the Western world. Working through literature review of studies on the urban geography in Turkey, content analysis is revealed in terms of effective approaches to urban geography in the Western world. The study data sources are published articles on urban geography and graduate and doctoral thesis on the urban geography in Turkey. The study is taken from a positive-normative point of view. The development of urban geography in Turkey is divided into three periods. At the end of this analysis, the approaches to urban development in Turkey and the approaches to urban development in Western world Show differences while these differences are not so severe in the initial periods, they increase in time. There is an German and France style on urban geography in Turkey. This effect is still pervasive. The changes in urban geography in Turkey are still behind the changes observed in the urban geography of the Western word.
