Abstract

Small and highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles were successfully prepared on CeO2 and CeO2/ZSM-5 supports with the advantage of aggregation inhibition effect by the CeO2. The smallest Pt nanoparticles supported on CeO2 support exhibited the exceptionally high CO oxidation activity under mild conditions at low temperature compared with Pt/ZSM-5 and Pt/CeO2/ZSM-5 catalysts. On the other hand, oxidative degradation of acetaldehyde to CO2 efficiently proceeded in the presence of the Pt/CeO2/ZSM-5. Such highly efficient catalytic disposal of acetaldehyde as model compound of VOC was achieved utilizing synergenic effect of atomization of Pt nanoparticles by addition of a small amount of CeO2 and adsorptive enrichment ability of organic molecules originated from ZSM-5 zeolite.
