Abstract

With NH4I as the supporting electrolyte and graphite as the inert anode, a new and highly efficient electrochemical route was developed for the direct conversion of CO2 with olefins into cyclic carbonates. Upon the synergistic action of I2 and NH3 electrochemically generated in situ, CO2 with a wide range of olefins could be smoothly transformed to cyclic carbonates in good to excellent yields under mild conditions.
