Efficiency of Health Sector in South Asia - Some Evidences from Stochastic Frontier Analysis

Introduction

South Asia comprises of eight countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Three countries i.e. Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan fall in the group of low human development countries with HDI scores of 0.548, 0.538 and 0.465 respectively. Bhutan and Bangladesh fall in the category of medium human development countries with their HDI score of 0.602, 0.605 and 0.599 respectively.
