Abstract

In this paper, we propose a salient pole stator hybrid type switched reluctance motor (SRM) which has a pair of permanent magnets attached on the rotor between the poles. The machine performance is improved in two ways; torque increase by permanent magnet in addition to the conventional reluctance torque, and negative torque decrease by faster current fall in negative torque region. This paper describes the experimental results with current control loop under advanced firing angle and cut-off angle control. The considerable improvement of machine performance especially in efficiency and power-factor in the hybrid type SRM over standard VR type SRM is confirmed.
