His professional positions included assistant unit leader of the United States Geological Survey's Louisiana Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, Leader of the Oklahoma and New Mexico Units, and Professor and Chair of the Department of Range, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management at Texas Tech University. Phil's death in 2002 was both untimely and unexpected, and his friendship and kind spirit are missed by his coauthors.
