Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate grasshopper control in turf-type fescue using several fertilizer/insecticide granular formulations. Plots were set up at the Plant Pathology Research Farm, Stillwater, OK on tall fescue turfgrass that was established on 04 Apr at a seeding rate of 10 lb/1,000 ft2, and mowed to 3 inch. Soil was a Norge loam. Treatments were applied on 03 Jun to 6.25 ft2 plots arranged in a RCB design with four replications. Granular treatments were applied by hand with a shaker and liquid treatments were applied with a hand-held pump sprayer calibrated to deliver 5 gal/1,000 ft2. Following application, field cages constructed of aluminum frames and nylon netting that measured 2.5 x 2.5 x 3 ft high were secured over the treated plots. Sixteen 2nd to 4th instar grasshopper nymphs were released in each cage. Efficacy was determined on 10 and 14 Jun by opening each cage and counting all live grasshoppers that remained. The data were analyzed using ANOVA, and means were separated with LSD. Percent control was estimated using Abbott's formula.
