Abstract

Objective To analyze the effect of sitagliptin and metformin in the treatment of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and effects on blood glucose, insulin and lipid metabolism . Methods Ninety-four elderly patients with T2DM were selected and randomly divided into observation group (47 cases) and control group (47 cases) from July 2013 to June 2016. Both groups were given metformin treatment, the observation group added with sitagliptin phosphate treatment. The total efficiency of the two groups were calculated, and the blood glucose, insulin [fasting insulin (FINS) and glucagon like peptide -1 (GLP-1), islet beta cell function index (HOMA-β) and insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR), lipid metabolism low density lipoprotein (LDL), three glycerol (TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL), total cholesterol (TC)] level changes were detected and compared between the two groups before treatment and after 3 months of treatment. Results Curative effect: after 3 months of treatment, the total efficiency rate(93.62%) in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (65.96%), the difference was statistically significant (χ2=11.148, P 0.05). After 3 months of treatment, compared with the control group, HbA1c, 2hPBG, FBG were significantly lower in the observation group , the differences were statistically significant (P 0.05). Compared with the control group, FINS, GLP-1, HOMA-β were higher, and HOMA-IR was lower in the observation group after 3 months of treatment, the differences were statistically significant (P 0.05) . After 3 months treatment, the LDL, TG and TC in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, HDL was higher than that in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions The combination of sitagliptin and metformin in the treatment of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes can effectively control the blood glucose level and improve the insulin and lipid metabolism. Key words: Metformin; Sitagliptin; Tape 2 Diabetes Mellitus; Insulin
