Abstract

Sixteen novel organophosphorus derivatives have been prepared by the reactions of O,O-diethyl chlorophosphate / thiophosphate with one important series of heterocyclic compounds i.e. thiohydantoin. The fungicidal activity of all these derivatives have been evaluated againstColletotrichum falcatum (causing ‘red rot’ disease in sugarcane),Fusarium oxysporum (associated with wilt disease) andCurvularia lunata (causing leaf spot) at different concentrations. The screening results were correlated with the structural features of the tested compounds. The greater antifungal potency was observed with thiophosphate derivatives as compared to phosphates. O,O-Diethylthiophosphate derivatives containing 1-p-chlorophenyl-2-thiohydantoin and 1-o-chlorophenyl-2-thiohydantoin proved more active than some prevalent commercial synthetic fungicides.
