Abstract
Some disinfestants are claimed to be more effective than others in controlling ring rot (Corynebacterium sepedonicum) and blackleg (Erwinia carotovora varatroseptica) bacteria on contaminated surfaces. Of the readily available disinfestants tested mercuric chloride (0.1%) and formaldehyde (2% and 5%) were the most effective against blackleg bacteria, and bleach (10%) mercuric chloride (0.1%) and formaldehyde (5%) were the most effective against ring rot bacteria on metal, wooden and burlap surfaces.
