Abstract
In 38 type 2 diabetic patients, with secondary oral treatment failure, insulin therapy normalized triglyceride levels. This improvement was significantly correlated with glycaemic control (HbA 1c), but neither with β-cell secretion (plasma C-peptide), nor with insulin sensitivity index (ratio C-peptide/glucose). These results suggest that the hypotriglyceridemic effect of insulin is independent of the mechanism of hyperglycaemia.
