Abstract

Sesame varieties were waterlogged for 24~60 h and 14 characteristics including the activities of protective enzymes (SOD,POD and CAT) in sesame leaves, withering rate and death rate of sesame plants were detected at the budding, full flowering and ending flowering stages. The results showed that the activities of the protective enzymes (SOD,POD and CAT) in sesame leaves obviously increased first, and then decreased along with the process of waterlogging treatment; differences existed among different varieties at the budding and full flowering stages; and the waterlogging effects were found great on the growth rate, withering rate and death rate of sesame plants at the budding and full flowering stages, especially at the full flowering stage. The activities of the protective enzymes were significantly negatively correlative (0.05 or 0.01 level) with withering rate and death rate of sesame plants, but positively correlative with other 9 detected characters, such as the growth rate and capsules per plant, and the most correlation coefficients reached at significant or extremely significant level (0.05 or 0.01 level). The experimentindicated the effects of waterlogging on sesame were the most obvious at the full flowering stage and 36 h was sensitive time of waterlogging. The changes in leaf protective enzyme activities were consistent with the difference in agronomic characteristics of different sesame varieties after waterlogging treatment. Fig 4,Tab 1,Ref 23
