Abstract
The hydrograph characteristics of ephemeral flood flows determine channel bed infiltration losses and subsequent groundwater recharge. The present numerical study demonstrates that cumulative channel bed infiltration under time-varying surfacewater depth is primarily a function of the infiltration opportunity time and the mean depth of water. The temporal distribution of the surfacewater depth is relatively insignificant. Overall, the infiltration process appears to damp heavily the differences in the stage hydrograph.
