Abstract

In this paper, the upconversion luminescence of Er3+ ion-doped and Er3+/Tm3+ ion-codoped 70GeS2–10In2S3–20CsBr chalcohalide glasses were studied with 808 or 980nm laser diode as an excitation source. Results show that both excitations induced intensive green upconversion emissions for Er3+ ion-doped samples, which were greatly enhanced by Tm3+ ions codoping with an 808 nm laser source but became weakened under 980 nm excitation. The possible mechanisms involved under the different pump schemes are discussed in view of the energy transfer processes existing in the Er3+/Tm3+ ion-codoped glasses.
