Abstract

The maximum traction coefficient in traction curve under EHL conditions is markedly influenced by the maximum Hertzian pressure. The relationship between the maximum traction coefficient and the maximum Hertzian pressure has been investigated experimentally with two types of oil, viz., a mineral naphthenic oil and a poly-alpha-olefine. There is a big difference in the traction characteristics between these oils. The cause has been discussed based on thermal EHL analyses using the Eyring sinh fluid model.
