Abstract

The flow state is an ideal state of work performance. A previous study concluded that the flow state might, in fact, be accompanied by increased parasympathetic modulation of sympathetic activity. However, there is little knowledge about the relationship between the flow state and thermal physiological indices. Nasal skin temperature is a remotely measurable index of autonomic nervous system activity marked by emotional stress. The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between the flow state and nasal skin temperature. As a result, it was found that there is a relationship between the deep flow state by psychological evaluation and nasal skin temperature variability. © 2021 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.
