Abstract
The effects of anions and fibrous texture of soap on the wear and friction properties of lubricating grease were investigated with the aid of four-ball machine testing and scanning electron microscopy. The results indicated that the carbon chain length and the odd or even carbon number in the chains had significant influences on the wear and friction properties of lubricating grease. With the aid of a scanning electron microscope, certain relationships were found to exist between wear and friction properties and fibrous texture of lithium soap.
