Abstract
Within the framework of the effective field theory with a probability distribution technique that accounts for the self spin correlations, we study the effects of surface on the critical temperature of ferroelectric films using the transverse spin-1/2 Ising model. The equations for the critical temperature of surface ferroelectric films with arbitrary exchange constants and transverse fields are derived. The dependence of the critical temperature on the thickness, exchange interactions and transverse fields is discussed.
