Abstract

1. An experiment was designed to test the effects of body size in Drosophila pseudoobscura on lifetime egg production, longevity, and egg viability. 2. The results show that large females lay significantly more eggs than medium or small flies; small females lay the least number of eggs. Comparing the egg laying capacity at different temperatures, it is found that females at 15⚬C. lay more eggs than those at 25⚬C. 3. Larger females live longer than medium or small flies: the longevity of adult females kept at 15⚬C. is greater than at 25⚬C.
