Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of salvia miltiorrhiza injection and hyperbaric oxygen combined with idebenone on serum transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β), homocysteine (Hcy), neuropeptide Y (NPY) levels and quality of life in patients with vascular dementia (VD). Methods Sixty-six patients with VD were divided into control group(n=33) and study group (n=33) according to random number table method. The control group were treated with hyperbaric oxygen + idebenone, and the study group were treated with hyperbaric oxygen + idebenone + salvia miltiorrhiza injection, the two groups were treated for 2 months. The clinical efficacy, the incidence of adverse reactions, admission and after treatment of stroke specific quality of life scale (SS-QOL), activity of daily life (ADL), mini-mental state examination (MMSE), serum TGF-β, Hcy and NPY levels were statistically compared between the two groups after the course of treatment. Results The SS-QOL, ADL and MMSE scores in the two groups after treatment were higher than those before treatment, and those of the study group were higher than those of the control group, the differences were significant (P 0.05), but after treatment, the serum TGF-β level in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group, and the Hcy and NPY levels were significantly lower than those in the control group (P 0.05). Conclusions Salvia miltiorrhiza injection and hyperbaric oxygen combined with idebenone has significant effect on vascular dementia, which can increase the serum TGF-β level, reduce the Hcy and NPY levels, enhance the cognitive function, daily living ability, improve the therapeutic effect and life quality, with higher safety, so it is worthy of promotion. Key words: Salvia miltiorrhiza injection; Hyperbaric oxygen; Idebenone; Vascular dementia; Serum factor; Quality of life
