Abstract

Introduction: The study of the physiological responses of salivary glands to endurance exercise has gained attention in recent years. Both parasympathetic and sympathetic stimulation induces the salivary secretion. However, whether prolonged exercise with and without carbohydrate-electrolyte solution influences the salivary α-amylase activity still remains to be elucidated. The purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of 2h of prolonged cycling exercise with and without carbohydrate-electrolyte solution on salivary α-amylase activity in physically active men.
