Abstract

This paper considers the effect of the polarization coupling loss phenomenon on the design of antennas for meteor scatter communication at short and long ranges. It will be demonstrated that this mechanism strongly influences the spatial arrival pattern of usable meteor trails, and antenna patterns need to be designed around this effect. Characteristics of antenna patterns which exploit the spatial arrival pattern of meteor trails at short and long ranges will be given.
