Abstract

The author considers the effect of the polarization coupling loss mechanism on the design of antennas for meteor scatter communication. It is demonstrated that this mechanism strongly influences the spatial arrival pattern of usable meteor trails, and that antenna patterns need to be designed around this effect. Characteristics of antenna patterns that exploit the spatial arrival pattern of meteor trails at short and long ranges are given. >
