Abstract

The effects of oxygen adsorption on copper (001) have been studied by surface barrier resonance spectroscopy in LEED. As a result of adsorption the Bragg peaks move to lower energies and the resonance profiles are heavily modified. A theoretical analysis of this data indicates that the surface barrier height rises by about 2 eV and the barrier origin moves about 0.2 Å further out from the copper surface as a result of oxygen adsorption.
