Abstract

It is shown that 3D neutral fluid turbulence of toroidal flow over cavities leads to much enhanced heat flux to the toroidal sidewalls. For ITER-like divertors, this turbulent convection will very significantly lengthen the gas blanket detachment region — which from laminar heat conduction would be totally inadequate.
