Abstract

Abstract3D neutral fluid turbulence is considered within the gas blanket regime in front of the divertor plate. For 2D mean flows over toroidal cavities, it is shown that the turbulence leads to enhanced conductivity profiles as well as strongly increased heat flux to the toroidal walls. For ITER‐like divertors, these effects significantly lengthen the gas blanket regime to protect the target ‐ which under laminar conditions would not occur.
