Abstract

We study phase transition from the free flow state to the congested state in a packet switching network (PSN) model. We have developed a time-discrete algorithmic simulation model of the OSI network layer of PSN. We use this model to investigate how the phase transition point is affected by the network size, network connection topology and routing algorithms. We study how additional links added to a network connection topology and their various levels of preferentiality of attachment affect the phase transition point and throughput.
