Abstract

This study investigates the impact of nanoparticles blended biodiesel on the performance, combustion and emission characteristics of single cylinder diesel engine. Owing to the advanced properties of nanofluids, many researchers have tested the impact of assorted nanoparticles on the overall performance, combustion and emission characteristics of diesel engine but current studies had been focused entirely on nanoparticles dispersed in diesel or biodiesel as base fluid. The different prepared blends such as diesel, B20 (80% Diesel + 20% pongamia methyl ester (POME)), B20Fe3O450 (80% Diesel + 20% POME + 50 ppm Fe3O4), B20Fe3O4100 (80% Diesel + 20% POME + 100 ppm Fe3O4) are examined with varying loads and the obtained results of performance, combustion and emission characteristics are compared to that of mineral diesel. From this study, it is concluded that the iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles blended biodiesel not only enhance the performance characteristics but also helps in the reduction of harmful emissions from compression ignition engines.
