Abstract

The uplink (mobile-to-base) capacity of microcellular CDMA system which employs noncoherent reception, 1/3 convolutional codes and 64-ary orthogonal signaling, and closed-loop power control is estimated. System bandwidths of 1.25 and 10 MHz are considered. The system capacity, the number of simultaneous users per cell, is estimated taking into account the effects of the fast power control algorithm on the multiuser interference, as well as the effects of path loss and shadow fading. Capacity is obtained as a function of path loss exponent, order of antenna and multipath diversity, and system bandwidth. Path loss exponent is seen to have a major impact on system capacity. Effects of multipath diversity on the system capacity are studied for the particular system under consideration. >
