Abstract

Introduction: It has been known that urinary α-amylase occurs mainly in the form of two isoenzymes of pancreatic (P) and (S) salivary origin. Previous research demonstrated the effects of endurance exercise on those urinary isoenzyme activity. However, whether prolonged exercise with and without carbohydrate-electrolyte solution influences the urinary α-amylase isoenzyme levels still remains to be elucidated. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of 2 h of prolonged cycling exercise with and without carbohydrate-electrolyte solution on urinary α-amylase isoenzyme (P and S) activity in moderately trained men.
