Abstract

This paper studies the effects on the performance of a visible light communication link induced by LED lighting degradation and junction temperature variation. A theoretical analysis of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) degradation due to LED degradation over time is first carried out. Then simulation results are shown to reveal the SNR degradation. An empirical model for junction temperature variation is used to predict the output light spectrum shift, from which the SNR degradation is theoretically derived and simulated along with junction temperature variation.
