Abstract

Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. ‘Wisconsin 38’) callus growth was inhibited progressively by gentamicin sulfate at all concentrations tested. Gentamicin inhibited shoot initiation from tobacco callus and salpiglossis [Salpiglossis sinuata (Ruiz and Pav.) ‘Bolero’] leaf discs at concentrations above 25 mg/l. At 100 mg/l the antibiotic suppressed completely organogenesis from explants of both tobacco and salpiglossis.
