Abstract

The fluctuation conductivity in Bi 2− x Ge x Sr 2CaCu 2O 8+ δ (0⩽ x⩽0.15) single crystals prepared by the self-flux method was measured in order to investigate the effects of Ge doping on the superconducting properties. In the analysis of the fluctuation conductivity, we adopt the Aslamazov–Larkin and Lawrence–Doniach theories in which the short-wavelength cutoff in the fluctuation spectrum is taken into account, and find good agreement between theory and experiment. From the analysis, we deduce that the main effect of Ge doping is to increase the out-of-plane coherence length ξ c and to decrease the in-plane coherence length ξ ab , consequently, reducing the anisotropy.
