Abstract
The effects of nonparabolicity on the free-carrier absorption in $n$-type GaP are analyzed on the basis of quantum-mechanical results. It is shown that the absorption coefficient is reduced by about 10-15% in the wavelength range 4-10 \ensuremath{\mu}. The index of wavelength dependence is also somewhat increased.
